WHY
A proposed facility to convert Record Ridge ore into premium >99% MgO, magnesium products and critical mineral co-products.
Supplying the critical inputs that power aerospace alloys, defense systems, semiconductor manufacturing, battery storage, pharmaceuticals, electric vehicles and industrial agriculture markets.
A significant value driver within the WHY Resources portfolio.
Meeting the most demanding specifications in automotive, aerospace, and electronics.
A proposed facility to convert Record Ridge ore into high-purity magnesium products and strategic co-products, the MgO Plant is built to maximize recovery from each tonne of ore and support the development of a scalable critical minerals supply chain.
Record Ridge provides a permitted, high-grade feedstock source with 43 million tonnes of measured and indicated resource at 24.6% magnesium and 10,590,000 tonnes of contained magnesium, making it one of the largest and highest-grade magnesium deposits in North America.
The simple quarry-style extraction model (drill, blast, crush, haul) delivers consistent ore quality to the processing facility with minimal variability — supporting reliable and predictable plant operations.
The proprietary HCl-based hydrometallurgical processing pathway is designed to achieve >99% MgO purity, meeting the most stringent specifications demanded by automotive, aerospace, electronics, and pharmaceutical end-users.
KPM’s Stage 1 & 2 testing confirmed it is possible to produce a high-purity (>99%) MgO from Record Ridge material using a commercially proven HCl-based treatment process, achieving a recovery rate of 94.85%.
Pilot testing is currently conducted at Process Research Ortech in Toronto. This will be the first step toward full commercial plant development.
A cleaner, lower-carbon pathway to high-purity magnesium oxide developed in partnership with KPM and Tenova, customized for Record Ridge ore.
Mine, crush, haul. No on-site processing or development or tailings ponds.
Proprietary HCl-based hydrometallurgical process dissolves magnesium from the crushed ore.
Multi-stage purification removes impurities to achieve over 99% MgO and SiO2 high-purity products.
4 High-Purity critical minerals (MgO, SiO2, Ni, Iron) for advanced industrial use. Meeting requirements for pharmaceutical and food grade products as well as water purification.
Low carbon and low waste.
The MgO Plant transforms Record Ridge’s permitted, high-grade resource into premium magnesium oxide, silica, nickel, and iron products — converting geological scale into commercial value and long-term shareholder returns.
